4 Tips on Settling Sibling Squabbles

Sharing the same DNA can lead to drama. Sibling tensions can feel heightened. Check out these 4 tips on settling those squabbles…

A Focus for Each

Different age children have different needs. Focussing on different activities for each child can help them focus on themselves and be less interested in sibling squabbling.

Rules is Rules

As the squabble dust settles, it can help to gently remind them of the rules whilst also being empathetic to their feelings. It’s a balancing act. Start with showing you understand their behaviour, then explain why it’s not helpful.  ‘I know you are angry at your brother but we don’t hit.’

Let them Work it Out

It may be tempting to solve every squabble but sometimes stepping back can help. It’s a judgement call. Allowing your kids to work something out between them can be a good exercise in conflict resolution and help them with problem solving in later life.

If all else Fails…Fresh Air

Sometimes squabbling can be a result of boredom. Finding freedom and fresh air can help. Unleash their pent-up energy at your local park or field. Let them run it off and play it out.
